The Canadian Cattle Association (CCA) concluded its 2025 Annual General Meeting on March 20 in Ottawa, marking a leadership transition and addressing critical industry developments.
Tyler Fulton of Birtle, Manitoba has assumed the role of President, succeeding Nathan Phinney of Sackville, New Brunswick. Phinney now serves as Past President. Fulton previously served as CCA Board Secretary and Manitoba Beef Producers District 7 Director.
Three directors—Sheila Hillmer and Doug Roxborough of Alberta, and Jack Chaffe of Ontario—retired from the Board. CCA acknowledged their service and contributions to the industry.
The Ottawa setting allowed for strong participation from cattle producers across Canada and facilitated engagement with federal officials. The Honourable Kody Blois extended remarks during a retirement dinner for outgoing president Nathan Phinney, who concluded 27 months in the role.
Throughout the week, CCA hosted a series of committee meetings focused on the rapidly evolving landscape of Canadian agriculture. Representatives from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada outlined ongoing efforts to streamline regulations aimed at enhancing the global competitiveness of the Canadian beef sector. The regulatory update was part of a federal announcement made on March 19.
Several key stakeholders addressed committee meetings, including:
-
Canadian Food Inspection Agency representatives and Canadian Cattle Identification Agency General Manager Ashley Scott (Animal Health and Care Committee),
-
Kent Bacus of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (Domestic Agriculture, Food Policy and Foreign Trade Committee),
-

The Livestock Markets Association of Canada was formally welcomed as an associated organization member of the CCA.
