Cargill Invests $90 Million in Automation at Fort Morgan Beef Plant

Cargill is making a significant investment in its Fort Morgan, Colorado, beef processing facility, committing nearly $90 million to automation and new technology as part of its “Factory of the Future” initiative. This follows $24 million already spent on upgrades since 2021.

A major component of the investment is CarVe, a proprietary, patent-pending computer vision tool that provides real-time red meat yield data. The system allows immediate feedback for processing staff, helping to boost cutting precision, reduce waste, and increase protein output from each animal. With U.S. cattle supplies at historic lows, maximizing yield is a critical step in supporting supply chain efficiency and sustainability.

In addition to technological upgrades, Cargill has contributed to the Fort Morgan community by investing in a $40 million housing initiative, including 27 completed townhomes and an 81-unit apartment complex opening this fall. The company has also granted over $500,000 to support local services such as childcare and housing assistance programs.

The Fort Morgan facility plays a key role in Cargill’s national beef supply, processing product sourced from regional farmers and ranchers for distribution across the U.S.

Cargill’s long-term commitment reflects broader efforts to increase food production efficiency while supporting local communities and reducing environmental impact.
