The 19th annual Canadian Junior Angus Guiding Outstanding Angus Leaders (GOAL) Conference took place over the weekend in Saskatoon, SK, bringing together 80 young Angus enthusiasts for an engaging and educational event. The conference featured leadership development, industry insights, and the presentation of $14,000 in awards through the Canadian Angus Foundation Legacy Scholarship program.
Scholarship Winners Recognized
A highlight of the event was the awarding of $11,000 in scholarships to five outstanding finalists. Reegan Frey secured the top spot, earning a $5,000 scholarship. Lexi Dietrich followed in second place with a $3,000 award, while Lane Steen took third, receiving $2,000. Ava Loveridge and Hanna Fitchett each received $500 as runners-up. The Legacy Scholarship program recognizes Canadian Junior Angus members for academic excellence, leadership, community involvement, and industry knowledge.
In addition to the scholarships, Bella Davidson of Dobbinton, Ontario, won a $3,000 heifer voucher. The prize was awarded through a random draw among attendees, providing Bella with funds to purchase an Angus female this year.
Meet the Scholarship Recipients
Reegan Frey – $5,000 Scholarship Winner
Reegan Frey completed an Agribusiness Diploma at Assiniboine Community College in 2023 and is now pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture – Animal Science at the University of Saskatchewan. Aspiring to become an embryologist, she has been an active 4-H member since childhood and serves as a director and past president of the Saskatchewan Junior Angus board.
Lexi Dietrich – $3,000 Scholarship Winner
Lexi Dietrich is completing her second diploma in Agribusiness Marketing at Lakeland College. With a passion for graphic design in the cattle industry, she balances her studies with leadership roles as secretary of the Canadian Junior Angus board and vice president of the Alberta Junior Angus Association.
Lane Steen – $2,000 Scholarship Winner
A senior at Hanley Composite School, Lane Steen has spent a decade in the Hanley 4-H Beef Club and serves on the student representative council. He is the first international board member of the North American Junior Red Angus Association and plans to pursue agricultural engineering after graduation.
Hanna Fitchett – $500 Scholarship Winner
Currently in her second year of an Agribusiness diploma at Lakeland College, Hanna Fitchett is specializing in finance. With ambitions to become an agriculture commercial banker, she has held leadership roles in the BC Junior Angus Association and will join the Canadian Junior Angus board in 2025.
Ava Loveridge – $500 Scholarship Winner
A high-achieving student at Melville Comprehensive School, Ava Loveridge has been on the honour roll with distinction since 2020. She plans to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education at the University of Saskatchewan and currently serves as a director on the Saskatchewan Junior Angus board.
