The Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) has approved the requested increase to the mandatory provincial check-off fee by $1.50 effective November 1st, 2019. This increase applies to all persons who sell cattle in Ontario and to all persons who collect and remit the fee payable to Beef Farmers of Ontario (BFO) under Regulation 54 of the Beef Cattle Marketing Act.

BFO’s Board of Directors would like to thank our membership for recognizing the importance of this change and the delegates who voted in favour of this increase at our 2019 Annual General Meeting. As published earlier in the year, the decision to move forward with the proposed increase passed at our Annual General Meeting with strong support from voting delegates. This increase is vital to support the new Joint Marketing Committee, in collaboration with Ontario Cattle Feeders Association, in growing market share for Ontario beef at home and abroad and BFO’s efforts to enhance consumer and producer engagement initiatives.

We hope that this change will be a seamless one for all concerned.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the BFO office at 519-824-0334.
