Two North Dakota couples, CJ and Calli Thorne, and their neighbors Luke and Courtney Taylor, have recently acquired Yellowstone River Beef in Williston, North Dakota. The acquisition of the USDA-inspected facility was finalized in May.
Yellowstone River Beef, located at 6 East Dakota Parkway, sells its products on-site, as well as at Scenic Sports in Williston and Sayetsitty Coffee in Watford City. The retail space operates weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Thornes estimate they can process about 60 to 70 head of cattle per week.
The primary aim of the new owners is to keep processing local and reduce wait times for ranchers. The facility allows ranchers to sell their products across state lines with a slaughter and disposal fee. “We’d love for people to visit, see the place, and understand that the beef comes from local cattle, making it as fresh as possible,” said Calli Thorne.
Yellowstone River Beef had previously purchased the Prairie Packing plant in 2019. The new acquisition aims to enhance local processing capabilities and support the regional beef industry.
