Brazil Poised for Record-Breaking Meat Exports in 2025

81

Brazil, the world’s leading exporter of beef and chicken, is on track to set new records in meat exports for 2025, according to industry forecasts. The optimism comes on the heels of robust trade data for 2024, coupled with favorable economic conditions such as declining grain prices and a weak Brazilian currency, which have strengthened the country’s competitive edge in global markets.

Record-Setting Performance in 2024

Brazil exported an impressive 2.89 million tons of beef in 2024, marking a 26% increase compared to the previous year. Revenue from beef exports reached $12.8 billion, a 22% rise from 2023. China continued to dominate as the top destination, accounting for nearly half of Brazil’s beef export revenue with $6 billion in imports.

Chicken exports also reached historic highs, totaling 5.294 million tons—a 3% increase from 2023. Revenue from chicken exports hit $9.928 billion, a 1.3% uptick compared to the prior year. Monthly shipment volumes for chicken exceeded 440,000 tons, reflecting steady demand and efficient production.

Prospects for 2025

Industry leaders anticipate even greater achievements in 2025. The Brazilian Beef Exporters Association (Abiec) predicts new records in both volume and revenue as the country expands its market access. The government is currently negotiating with key markets, including Japan, Vietnam, Turkey, and South Korea, to further boost exports.

Similarly, the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA) is optimistic about chicken exports, expecting sustained monthly increases and higher annual figures compared to 2024.

Economic Drivers of Growth

The combination of lower grain prices, which reduce feed costs, and a weaker Brazilian real, which makes Brazilian meat more affordable globally, continues to benefit exporters. Major companies like JBS and BRF are well-positioned to capitalize on these trends, further solidifying Brazil’s dominance in the global meat trade.

Looking Ahead

With strong demand from China and potential entry into new markets, Brazil’s meat industry is poised for a banner year in 2025. The continued focus on expanding market access and leveraging favorable economic conditions positions the country to maintain its leadership in global beef and chicken exports.
