Denali, a top recycler of organic materials, announced in its 2023 Sustainability Report that it recycled over 10 billion pounds of organic byproducts, creating natural fertilizers and nutrient-rich animal feed. From the 1.7 billion pounds of food waste collected, more than 75% was recycled, addressing specific nutritional needs for farmers’ livestock and supporting sustainable agriculture practices.
Key Agricultural Impacts from 2023 Report:
- Denali’s fertilizers covered 100,000+ acres of farmland, while its animal feed nourished over 40,000 cattle in five states.
- According to EPA estimates, converting 1.3 billion pounds of food waste to animal feed prevented approximately 780,000 metric tons of CO₂e emissions, equivalent to removing nearly 186,000 cars from the road for a year.
- Denali’s innovations, such as its depackaging technology, further streamline the recycling process by separating organic materials from packaging, helping turn food waste from retailers and institutions across the U.S. into clean organic matter for compost, feed, and renewable energy sources.
Denali CEO Todd Mathes emphasized the company’s role in advancing the circular economy by transforming waste into resources for farmers, offering cost-saving fertilizers and feeds that mitigate agricultural expenses. Denali’s ongoing goal is to expand its sustainable solutions for greater environmental and agricultural benefits nationwide.
