PERC Launches Virtual Fence Conservation Fund to Support Ranchers and Wildlife

99

The Property and Environment Research Center (PERC) has unveiled the Virtual Fence Conservation Fund, a $250,000 initiative designed to promote wildlife conservation and support ranchers through innovative virtual fencing technology. The fund invites applications from ranchers, conservationists, and organizations aiming to implement this groundbreaking approach to land and wildlife management.

Revolutionizing Ranching and Conservation
Virtual fencing employs GPS-enabled collars and base stations to create invisible boundaries, eliminating the need for traditional barbed-wire fences. This flexible, wildlife-friendly solution benefits ranchers by reducing maintenance costs and enhancing land management, while also conserving critical habitats and migration corridors.

Grant Opportunities
PERC’s fund will provide grants ranging from $10,000 to $75,000 to eligible projects, based on conservation impact and scope. Examples of potential projects include:

  • Protecting wildlife migration corridors
  • Restoring riparian zones and sensitive habitats
  • Managing predator risks
  • Supporting post-wildfire habitat recovery

In addition to financial support, PERC’s Conservation Innovation Lab will offer expert guidance to help recipients implement their projects successfully.

Who Can Apply
Applications are open to ranchers, landowners, Indigenous communities, and conservation organizations. Successful applicants must demonstrate a clear conservation benefit, a commitment to monitoring outcomes, and a sustainable plan for the long-term use of virtual fencing technology.
