What’s Next After Filing Your Harvested Production Reports?

181

With harvest season wrapped up and Harvested Production Reports (HPRs) submitted, many producers with crop insurance are eager to learn when they might receive updates on their production assessments. Agriculture Financial Services Corporation (AFSC) assures clients that their team is actively processing reports and calculating any potential losses. While waiting, here are key points to keep in mind:

Payment by Declaration

Once HPRs are submitted, producers declare their reported production for the year. If specific criteria—such as the shortfall amount and crop grade—are met, producers may receive compensation through a payment by declaration. This method avoids the need for an on-farm inspection and can expedite payments. Clients can also opt to defer indemnity payments to the following year in many cases.

Post-Harvest Advance

Eligible producers experiencing a shortfall may qualify for a post-harvest advance, receiving part of their estimated shortfall payment before adjusters complete on-farm production reviews. AFSC will reach out to qualifying clients through a relationship manager.

Addressing Quality Concerns

For crops impacted by quality degradation due to designated perils, AFSC adjusts production totals for quality losses. For annual crops, receipted grades from Canadian Grain Commission-licensed buyers are required. Producers selling grain to private buyers or grain dealers must contact AFSC beforehand for guidance on retaining acceptable samples. Special adjustments apply to export timothy if the grade falls below AFSC’s designated “Choice” grade.

Streamline Payments with Direct Deposit

Avoid potential mail delays by signing up for direct deposit, which is secure, efficient, and time-saving. Producers can find more information about switching to direct deposit on AFSC’s website.

Looking Ahead to 2025 Crop Insurance

Producers interested in purchasing or renewing crop insurance for the 2025 crop year can reach out to AFSC. Coverage is available for annual and perennial crops, with enrollment beginning in the new year.
