Beretta Farms is the latest company to capitalize on Alberta’s Agri-Processing Investment Tax Credit, reinforcing the province’s position as a top destination for agricultural investment. With a $10.9 million expansion to its Lacombe facility, the company has significantly increased its meat processing capacity while contributing to local job growth and economic development.
The expansion adds 10,000 square feet of new warehousing, cooler space, and office infrastructure. As a result, Beretta Farms expects to boost its processing volume from 29,583 to 44,688 head of cattle annually—an increase of more than 50 per cent. Eleven new employees have already been hired, with ten more positions planned.
In recognition of the investment, Alberta’s government awarded Beretta Farms a $1.23 million tax credit through its Agri-Processing Investment Tax Credit program. This initiative offers a 12 per cent tax credit on eligible investments of $10 million or more for companies building or expanding value-added agri-processing facilities.
Beretta’s federally registered, EU-approved facility specializes in slaughter, processing, and packaging of beef and bison, with distribution to 87 countries. The added capacity is expected to strengthen Alberta’s presence in international markets, particularly in Europe.
The province’s agri-processing sector is the second-largest manufacturing industry in Alberta, driven largely by meat processing. Since the launch of the tax credit in 2023, 16 projects totaling $1.6 billion in proposed investments have applied, with 13 receiving conditional approval.
With one of North America’s lowest tax rates, a business-friendly climate, and vast agricultural resources, Alberta continues to draw major investment in value-added food production—creating jobs, enhancing exports, and growing rural economies.
