“Are we there yet?” theme features a speaker or workshop every Tues & Thurs of March

The team at Alberta Farm Animal Care has done it again – re-imagining its annual Livestock Care Conference in a new virtual format for 2021 featuring a speaker or workshop every Tuesday and Thursday of March beginning March 4.

“Last year LCC was among the first ag conferences scheduled as restrictions were introduced and our shift to virtual was very last minute. We were grateful to preserve a successful event at a time when the information and challenges were shifting daily,” says Annemarie Pedersen, Executive Director of AFAC. “We wanted to change up the virtual format to keep things fresh and engaging. With more time to prepare, our team has created this new speaker and workshop series and we are very excited about it.”

This year’s conference theme is “Are we there yet?” with a focus on the progress and potential ahead for farm animal care. “This year’s theme sums up the emotions heading into 2021, and also the efforts towards livestock welfare improvement through the years,” says Pedersen. “We know progress is a journey and we are never ‘there’ but we want to showcase what’s happening to keep us moving forward down that road. The knowledge and insights provided by the speakers and workshops is an important catalyst to keep up the momentum.”

Highlights to look forward to include renowned speakers like Dr. Jody Carrington; a media panel of journalists, including Barbara Duckworth, to share their insights; a producer panel with industry experts to connect and learn; and innovative hands-on workshops including Mental Health, Animal Health Emergency Management and the postponed Difficult Conversations and Challenging Situations. Speaker topics span farm animal behaviour, regulations, practices and producer strategies, touching on all corners of the livestock industry to highlight just how far livestock welfare and practices have come while also focusing in on what’s ahead.

All speaker and panels will be recorded and conference registrants will have access to watch for up to three months after the live event. Register and conference details at www.afaclcc.ca.
