Perdido River Meats Opens New Processing Facility, Strengthening Alabama’s Beef Industry

The beef industry in Alabama just gained a new player with the grand opening of Perdido River Meats, a state-of-the-art processing facility in Atmore. Backed by a $29 million investment, the facility is set to enhance processing capacity for local cattle producers while offering high-quality beef directly to consumers.

Located on Atmosphere Road, the 23,000-square-foot facility includes both a processing operation and a retail storefront. Initially, it will process around 50 cattle per week, with plans to scale up as demand increases. While the focus is currently on beef, the facility is expected to add hog processing in the future.

The opening of Perdido River Meats comes at a crucial time for Alabama’s beef producers, many of whom have faced challenges securing processing slots at existing facilities. By adding much-needed capacity, this new operation could help streamline local beef supply chains and reduce the reliance on out-of-state processing.

Beyond its impact on the cattle industry, Perdido River Meats is bringing economic benefits to the region. The facility has created approximately 15 full-time jobs and is expected to generate further economic activity by supporting local cattle operations.

For consumers, the on-site retail store offers a direct-from-the-source meat-buying experience. Customers can purchase whole and half beef orders or select from a variety of fresh cuts, including premium steaks and roasts. The ability to buy locally processed beef is a selling point for those looking for high-quality, traceable meat.

As the demand for regional processing solutions continues to grow, facilities like Perdido River Meats could become a model for similar expansions elsewhere. With a strong foundation in place, the operation is positioned to play a key role in Alabama’s beef industry moving forward.
