Saskatchewan Agricultural Innovation Projects Receive $1.4 Million in New Funding

More than $1.4 million in funding has been allocated to 38 agricultural innovation projects in Saskatchewan for 2024–25 through the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (Sustainable CAP), a joint initiative of the federal and provincial governments.

The investment supports 32 Agriculture Demonstration of Practices and Technologies (ADOPT) projects and six Strategic Field Program (SFP) initiatives. Both programs aim to enhance the sustainability and competitiveness of the agricultural sector by promoting practical, research-based solutions at the farm level.

The ADOPT program assists producer groups and First Nations communities in testing and demonstrating new agricultural practices and technologies. These projects focus on short-term, actionable research that can be readily adopted by farmers to improve productivity and sustainability.

The SFP targets field-level research that addresses current challenges in crop and livestock production. It provides funding for studies that generate new best practices for Saskatchewan’s producers and processors, reinforcing the province’s leadership in sustainable agriculture.

Many of these projects will be showcased at Agri-ARM (Agriculture-Applied Research Management) sites across the province, offering producers the opportunity to observe and evaluate the innovations firsthand.

This funding is part of a broader $10 million, five-year commitment under Sustainable CAP to support demonstration and knowledge transfer projects. Sustainable CAP is a national $3.5 billion initiative aimed at strengthening Canada’s agriculture and agri-food sectors, with funding shared between federal and provincial governments.
